Connecting to an OMRON PLC

Omron & Sysmac Studio Remote Connection Guide

Hubbox Connect series devices provide secure and high-speed remote access to Omron industrial automation systems (NJ/NX Series, CP/CJ Series) worldwide. This guide explains step-by-step how to go online with your PLC via Sysmac Studio and CX-Programmer.

Sysmac Studio Configuration Steps

  • Start the Connection: Open the Hubbox Desktop Client and connect to your device. Ensure the VPN adapter has received an IP address.
  • Communication Setup: Open your project in Sysmac Studio. Go to the "Controller" menu and select "Communications Setup".
  • Select Connection Type: Set "Connection Type" to Ethernet connection via a hub.
  • IP Address Entry: Manually enter your PLC's local IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.15) in the designated field. Avoid using "Direct Connection" for remote access.
  • Test and Go Online: Click the "Test" button to verify the connection. If successful, use the "Online" button to establish the connection with the PLC.
Technical Tip: If you are using the "FINS" protocol on Omron PLCs, you may need to define the Hubbox virtual IP range in the FINS IP Address Table. However, for standard EtherNet/IP connections, setting the Hubbox local IP as the PLC's Gateway address is usually sufficient.

Common Issues and Solutions

A frequent issue with Omron connections is Sysmac Studio attempting to use the default physical network card. If you encounter a connection error, you can lower the interface metric of the Hubbox VPN adapter to give it priority.

Warning: When connecting via CX-Programmer, ensure the network type is set to "Ethernet" in "Work Online" mode and the correct Workstation Node number is defined in the Driver settings.
