Connecting to a Siemens PLC using TIA Portal

Siemens & TIA Portal Remote Connection Guide

Hubbox Connect series devices provide secure and high-speed remote access to Siemens industrial automation systems (S7-1200, S7-1500, S7-300, S7-400). This guide explains step-by-step how to get online with your PLC via TIA Portal.

TIA Portal Configuration Steps

  • Initiate Connection: Open the Hubbox Desktop Client application and connect to the relevant device by clicking the "Connect" button. Ensure the virtual TAP adapter receives an IP address.
  • PG/PC Interface Settings: In TIA Portal, open the "Go Online" or "Download to device" window.
  • Adapter Selection: Select PN/IE as the "Type of the PG/PC interface". From the "PG/PC interface" list, make sure to select the "VPN Adapter" option.
  • Direct IP Access: If the device is not visible via the "Compatible devices in target subnet" option, manually type your PLC's IP address (e.g., 192.168.0.10) into the "Access address" column and press Enter.
Technical Tip: For Siemens devices, the "Router" setting must be defined in the PLC hardware configuration. Defining the Hubbox device's local IP address as your PLC's Gateway address stabilizes access from different subnets.

Common Issues and Solutions

The most common scenario in Siemens connections is TIA Portal scanning the wrong network card. Always ensure that you have selected the network adapter that corresponds to the VPN tunnel, not your local internet connection.

Warning: Antivirus software or Windows Firewall may block TIA Portal from sending packets over the Hubbox VPN. If a connection cannot be established, try disabling them temporarily and try again.
